Protein is a necessary nutrient for the biological phenomenon. It is needed consistently from our diets in order to grow, maintain, and repair our tissues, hormones, and immune system. Most people will benefit from eating more protein, except in the case of having a specific medical reason to keep protein intake low.
When it comes to getting protein in your diet, meat consumption is not the only option. Protein is bifurcated into animal and plant proteins. Your best bet for getting protein is to mix and match from both animal and vegetable proteins evenly. Mounting demand on plant based proteins is seen on the recent global food market. According to the market report written by ‘ResearchAndMarket’, the global plant-based protein market is estimated to reach US$35.54 billion in 2024 growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate(CGAR) of 14% for the period spanning 2020-2024, whereas the global plant-based meat market is forecasted to reach US$24.11 billion in 2024, growing at a CAGR of 14.45% for the period spanning 2020-2024. It stems from changes in lifestyle, lack of balanced dietary intake, and improved research implemented to develop new kinds of plant-protein enriched products. The important point for protein consumption is that how much protein you need each day depends on your age, gender, and level of physical activity. Here’s a South Korean company which tries to reduce nutrition imbalance on the body: ‘Gaon N (CEO: Kang Bong Soo)’
‘Gaon N’ is manufacturing snack foods with a high nutritional value which is tailored to different stages of life cycle. CEO Kang Bong Soo said, “Although interest in plant protein is increasing rapidly due to reduction of meat consumption in the U.S., the protein intake still seems to be secondary in Asia,” He added that he has decided to develop ‘Labalance’ after thinking about how to eat protein more easily. ‘Labalance’ is a snack that contains more than 40 percent of plant protein, which is about 20 percent higher than high-protein snacks on the market.
‘Gaon N’ is engaged in evidence-based research and development both on nutritious food productions and on IT platforms. Kang is also being tasked with more personalized nutrition offerings, at the same time as developing an analytics platform. The company is in the process of developing several nutrition matching platforms, each of which is designed to provide customized programs for infants, pregnant women, and elderly people. The one for infants comes into use soon. The artificial intelligence in the platform service provides personalized nutritional consulting based on an analysis algorithm on the user’s health record. Adopting data monetization strategy would also contribute to finding new and more personal ways to advertise and market to consumers and to enable scaling up manufacturing networks. To achieve this, Kang is working together with food scientists and medical professionals. He is also putting his energy to develop other different nutritious ingredients, starting from plant protein.
Because the responsibility for maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle falls on individuals, developing personalized food and lifestyle products is an important step towards reaching the centenarian era. Big data technology would bear the lion’s share. The precision outcome depends on the quantity and accuracy of big data: how much accurate information each individual has about the ingredients contained in each food. Korea, which is equipped with high technologies, has the potential to be a global leader in personalized diets. ‘Gaon N’ is expected to have the limelight in the global food market.
