“LA VIEWS – pLAylist” first opened May 10th and will be closing this weekend June 14-16th at LA’s oldest non-profit repertory theater, Company of Angels (CoA). In keeping with CoA’s mission on diversity, pLAylist proudly presents an 18-member cast representing various backgrounds and neighborhoods of LA. LA Views is part of the annual Short Play Festival by Company of Angels Playwrights Group.

This year, LA Views: pLAylist features 9 of their original playwrights based on some of the best LA songs. It’s a (playwrights’)mix-tape to LA, to its freeways and palm trees, traffic and culture, language and the Hollywood dream. LA pLAylist goes Drag Queen to Transgender teen cruising, “Whittier Blvd” on the Eastside, Hipster ‘Free Fallin’ on the ‘405’, It’s East meets West, It’s a mix of current day Hollywood Blvd evokes Hollywood past, Thee Midniters with a Morrissey clash or an Asian Girl Rapper to the MacArthur Park Undocumented!”

Launched in 2008, the LA Views Short Play Festival provides an opportunity for LA based playwrights to be inspired by and write the issues and themes about LA. From L.A.’s history to its contemporary concerns, the LA Views festivals have explored LA hunger and gentrification to its economy. This year, LA Views 6: LA pLAylist features the voices of the playwrights Howard Ho, John Dubiel, Julie Taiwo Oni, Lesley Anne Asistio, Lui Sanchez, Mando Alvarado, Mayank Keshaviah, Michael Patrick Spillers, Nic Cha Kim. The diverse cast consists of actors Alex Ximenez, Amy Urbina, Bruce Lemon, Devanny Torres, Eva Ceja, Gregory D. Alexander, Howard Ho, Javier Ronceros, Joe Robert Mejia, Joel Abelson, Jully Lee, Michelle Young Cho, Robert Paterno,Rufus Burns, Shon Fuller, Timothy Casto. The 9 different 10 minute stories are beautifully orchestrated and pieced by the Directors of “L.A VIEWS: pLAylist” Armando Molina, John Miyasaki, Jully Lee, Justin Huen, Lui Sanchez , Michael Patrick Spillers, Nadine Nonn, Rena Heinrich, West Liang.

These are definitely a talented group of people so do not be surprised when you see some of the playwrights actingin other scenes or a director also showcased as an actor.
