There was once a time when people who enjoyed characters and dolls were considered children. Thankfully, those times are gone. As the number of “kidults,” a term mixed with ‘kid’ and ‘adult’ referring to adults who share the same tastes as children, has increased in recent years, all ages are becoming enthusiastic about toys, character stationary and accessories. Students and office workers, in particular, meet these preferences.
With character products and cartoons in the spotlight, there is a company that makes special products that can give us joy while also adding its own individual twist. The company makes products such as pencil cases, wallets, and cushions. What makes this line unique is that the items are made to look like real fish rather than just a character. The company is called Monster Commerce and they are currently selling products in Korea using the brand name ‘Fish and Fancy.’ The pencil case, for example, is created with various types of fish such as the mackerel, the puffer fish, and the flatfish. The catch is that they seem very similar to live fish, so people may be astounded if they were to look from a distance. Even opening the zipper and looking inside these pencil cases will give you the impression that these are real fish. The online page of the brand markets these products with quirky catchphrases such as “I’ll send the fish after I remove its entrails” and “It is an omnivore that can eat a lot of writing instruments.” These headlines can easily grab anyone’s attention.
There are also 12 different types of fish pencils in ‘Fish and Fancy.’ The 12 fish were personally chosen by Kwang-Il Jeon, the company’s CEO, because he decided to turn his love of fishing into practical items that people would find intriguing. All of the items are hand-crafted by a technician with more than 30 years of design experience. Due to their high quality products, they were recognized as “ideal products” at the 2017 Hi-Seoul Good Products Awards.
On top of the pencil cases, coin wallets, and cushions, Monster Commerce hopes to add an interesting key ring into product line.
