South Korea’s leading carmaker Hyundai Motor, sold a record number of cars in Germany in 2015, data showed Friday.
The company was also found to have logged the fastest sales growth among major car brands in the European country.
In total, Hyundai Motor sold some 108,434 cars in Germany in 2015, reflecting an 8.6 percent rise from a year earlier, according to data compiled by a local automobile association.
The figure was the largest ever, exceeding the previous record of 101,522 units set in 2013. The 8.6 percent growth rate was also the fastest among major car brands that sold more than 100,000 units last year, the data showed.
Overall, Hyundai Motor’s 2015 growth outperformed the overall German auto industry, where sales expanded 5.6 percent on-year to 3.21 million units. The South Korea carmaker’s market share inched up from 3.3 percent in 2014 to 3.4 percent in 2015.
Combined with Kia Motors’ record high sales of 55,689 units last year, Hyundai Motor Group, which holds the two automakers under its wing, came in second among foreign brands following Skoda, the data showed.
