As of Saturday, Psy’s “Father” was streamed a total of 1,872,566 times on the website. The popularity chart is based on the changes in number of streamings each week on the Chinese portal site.
The original version of “Father,” which was released in Korea in 2005, was popular for its heartfelt lyrics illustrating a father’s sacrifice for the family. The Chinese version features piano arrangements by renowned Chinese concert pianist Lang Lang.
Psy and Lang Lang previously performed together at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, singing Psy’s “Champion.”
The Chinese version of “Father” was first introduced during the 2015 QQ Music Awards held on March 26, where he was awarded the “Most Influential Global Artist Award.”
