Microsoft founder Bill Gates invests billions in next-generation nuclear power plant construction project

As natural resources are depleted, many companies are turning to clean energy. Clean energy is good considering the disappearing energy and environment.

According to Bloomberg, Gates appeared on CBS’ “Face the Nation” and introduced the fact that Terra Power, the company he founded, launched its first SMR construction in the United States in Wyoming last week, saying, “I’ve put in $1 billion, and I’m going to put in billions more.”

TerraPower held a groundbreaking ceremony for next-generation SMR in Kemler, Wyoming, on the 10th with Gates in attendance.

Gates, the world’s sixth rejection based on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, co-founded TerraPower in 2008 with the goal of producing safe and abundant clean energy that does not use carbon fuels in the private sector.

TerraPower’s first next-generation SMR, backed by the U.S. Department of Energy, aims to be completed and operational by 2030, and plans to replace existing thermal power plants to power local residents.

According to Bill Gates, CNN’s global security program GPS indicates that the goal for the operation in 2028 is to depend on fuel imported from Russia, which is “unacceptable at this time.” He added that the U.S. and its allies will airlift fuel for the operation of the reactor.

TerraPower’s reactor is characterized by the use of liquid sodium as a coolant, not water. Liquid sodium has a boiling point of 880℃ higher than that of water (100℃), which has the advantage of absorbing more heat and increasing power generation.

“Coal is losing ground in the competition with natural gas,” Bill Gates also stressed on the program, “What we need to do is compete efficiently with natural gas.”

Meanwhile, TerraPower’s project in Wyoming is expected to cost up to $4 billion, half of which is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.

If there is a collaboration between the government and companies like the United States, it will have a good effect.
