The ratings for this year’s Golden Globe Awards are significantly higher than last year.

CBS, which broadcasted the 81st Golden Globe Awards live on the 8th local time, said 9.4 million viewers of the ceremony broadcast the previous day.

This is an increase of about 50% compared to 6.3 million viewers at the 80th Golden Globe Awards, which was broadcast live on NBC last year.

However, the Oscar, the highest-rated film award in the U.S., was far below the 18.7 million mark last year.

The Golden Globe Awards have been broadcast on NBC for more than 20 years since 1996, with CBS taking the broadcast rights for the first time this year.

Since 2021, the broadcaster has also changed as it has been plagued by controversy over racial and gender discrimination by the Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association (HFPA), the organizer of the Golden Globe, changed into a joint venture created by for-profit company Dick Clark Productions and investment company Eldridge Industries.

According to American entertainment media Variety, posts about the ceremony were very popular, with nearly 30 billion exposure to social media.

Netflix drama Angry People, directed by Korean actor Lee Sung-jin and starring Korean actor Steven Yeun, won three awards. The drama won Best Picture in a Miniseries and TV Movie, and Steven Yeun became the first Korean actor to win Best Actor in the same category.
