As interest in green living grows, increasing arrays of environmentally-friendly detergents are becoming available. Many different types of green products are available for all-purpose cleaning uses. These products contain plant-based ingredients, replacing some of the potentially harmful chemicals in conventional detergents.
Companies offer a spectrum of environmentally-friendly detergents and household cleaning products. Eliminating harmful ingredients represents one aspect of the eco-friendly spectrum of products. For example, laundry detergent manufacturers have reduced or replaced phosphates as a water-softening chemical due to their effect on algal growth and oxygen depletion in waterways
As consumer interest and demand for green products has grown, companies have begun to do more than just eliminate problematic ingredients. Environmentally aware consumers and corporations have begun seeking greener alternatives to petroleum-based detergents. Plant-based ingredients such as coconut, palm, corn, and other plants have replaced petroleum-based ingredients in cleaning products.
Since its establishment in 2007, South Korea based company, Best Bee, has been developing and marketing green household cleaning supplies and products. Best Bee’s Papaya Plus, a laundry detergent made out of papaya, is free of petroleum-based synthetic surfactants, preservatives, artificial flavorings and colorings, and fluorescent materials. Instead, Papaya Plus uses natural surfactants from corn, potatoes, and coconuts which prevent skin irritation. Also, advanced technologies allow for Papaya Plus to dissolve well even in cold water while maintaining a transparent water solution.
