Now, we are in a transitional period toward the 4th industrial revolution. A variety of technology, such as IoT(Internet of Things), AI(Artificial Intelligence), VR(Virtual Reality), and AR(Augmented Reality) are being applied not only to industries, but also to our daily lives. For example, AIーapplied products, such as autonomous cars, were introduced at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2018 held in Las Vegas. In Robo World Festival 2018 held in Seoul, South Korea, block coding educational material using IoT Technology and Smart Drones equipped with diverse technology were presented. In addition, many new technologies have begun to replace human workforce for hotels, supermarkets and restaurants to be run by robots.
This revolution also has generated a remarkable change to medical area. Instead of walking to the hospital, people with reduced mobility may check conditions, such as heart rate and blood pressure, at home using a mobile application. Paraplegic people may not need to depend on a wheelchair anymore, but may walk by themselves with an electronic peg leg. That is, technology advancement has enabled the physically disabled to live an ordinary, daily life further to simply preventing disease and improving immunity.
In addition, it is now reaching to raising our happiness. Recently, a VR device called ‘VR FETUS’ has been released by Girjae Soft, a South Korean firm specialized in ultrasonic diagnostic equipment. This device helps observe the fetus inside the body from different angles. By simply connecting to a monitor in a hospital through HDMI, parents can see the real-time moving fetus in a more sophisticated way than a sonogram. Not just at a hospital, but parents can also see the fetus at anytime from anywhere by using the VR device and mobile application ‘ALUVW’ and even share the video with family and friends. This has been enabled by 3D printing technology shaping the real-time moving fetus in 3-dimensional space and virtual reality technology presenting the fetus as if it is existing in front of your eyes.
Revolution has changed our lives in better ways. Mass production led to material well-being and scientific progress extended our life span. Adding to this, technologies through the 4th revolution is expected to satisfy our emotional part, as well as physical part.
