KYCC’s Prevention Education and Co-PALM (Coalition to Prevent Alcohol-Related Harms) will co-host a June 2 town hall on underage drinking in Los Angeles. The meeting will be held at the First Baptist Church of L.A. (760 S. Westmoreland Ave. Los Angeles, 90005) from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The town hall—“Alcohol: A Minor Problem?”–will address the problem of underage drinking and discuss proposed solutions from the community. The three issue areas are alcohol-outlet density, media messaging and cultural influences that impact youth to drink.
Metro LA—Koreatown, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Pico-Union, Westlake, Northeast and Downtown—has the most densely populated alcohol outlets in Los Angeles. “We need a community that prioritizes the health and wellness of our youth,” says Mihae Jung, Prevention Education Manager at KYCC.
This event was made possible by funds from the County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Health, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control.
KYCC is working in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control Division, in implementing an environmental prevention effort that is aimed at addressing the use of alcohol and marijuana among youth and young adults. KYCC’s Prevention Education unit provides community members with the necessary resources to advocate for themselves and the health and safety of their communities.
