Amazon Joins TikTok Acquisition at the Last minute

The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 2nd, citing sources, that Amazon has jumped into the bidding war with the deadline for the sale of the Chinese video platform “TikTok” suspended by U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to a source, Amazon’s bid was made by sending proposals to Vice President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Rutnick. President Trump is scheduled to meet with top White House officials to discuss the fate of TikTok. Oracle, Blackstone, other private equity funds, and venture capital have reportedly submitted proposals to acquire TikTok’s U.S. business.

Amazon has a close relationship with TikTok. It has also provided some tech infrastructure to TikTok.

TikTok has become a hub of retail shopping by influencers introducing its products, selling or advertising products through its own e-commerce service called TikTok shops. Many TikTok influencers receive a portion of their sales from Amazon, encouraging their viewers to purchase products from the company.
