Open AI CEO Sam Altman, who ‘married of the same sex’, revealed his birth son

Last year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who is known to have married a same-sex lover, disclosed that he had a son.

According to Yonhap News on the 24th, Altman posted a picture of the newborn on the 22nd (local time) and wrote, “Welcome to the world, little friend!”

“He (baby) came early and will be in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for a while,” he said. “He’s doing well, and it’s great to take care of him. I’ve never felt love like this before.”

“I sincerely congratulate you,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella wrote in a comment in Altman’s post, adding, “Parenting is one of the most profound and rewarding experiences of your life.”

Business Insider and other U.S. media outlets speculated that Altman had a son for the first time with his partner Oliver Mulherin, whom he married last year. Altman did not elaborate on how he got his son through surrogacy or adoption.

Altman is known to have married longtime software engineer Mulherin in January last year. “Future children will never know a world without AI that is smarter than them,” he said on a podcast last month. Altman’s same-sex partner was shown to the public when he accompanied Altman to a White House dinner in 2023.
