OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank Invest 720 Trillion to Establish ‘Stargate’ as AI Joint Investment Company

ChatGPT developer OpenAI will join hands with Oracle and Japan’s Softbank to establish a joint venture to build AI (artificial intelligence) infrastructure, CBS reported on the 21st (local time).

According to CBS, the joint venture will be named “Stargate” and will be in charge of building infrastructure for AI development. The company plans to build a data center in the U.S. state of Texas.

To this end, OpenAI, Oracle, and Softbank plan to invest $100 billion in initial funds and invest an additional $500 billion over the next four years, CBS said.

CBS said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and SoftBank Chairman Son Jeong-ui decided to visit the White House on the same day, and U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to make an announcement with the intention that there will be billions of dollars worth of investment in the private sector for the purpose of building AI infrastructure.

Microsoft will also join the Stargate business as a technology partner, the Financial Times reported, citing unnamed sources.

According to a Reuters report, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt appeared on the Fox News program after the CBS report and said President Trump would announce the matter himself at around 4 p.m.

Reuters reported that in March last year, there were media reports that OpenAI and Microsoft planned to develop a supercomputer named Stargate. It was an information report on technology media, which said at the time that the two companies aimed to launch a supercomputer in 2028.
