The US Golden Globe Award for Netflix drama ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 has failed.
At the 82nd Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on the 5th (local time), Squid Game Season 2 was nominated for best picture in the TV series drama category, but did not receive the honor.
The award went to “Shogun,” a Japanese drama series aired on FX channels in the U.S. The Shogun is based on a historical novel of the same name by James Clavel, which deals with Japanese political conspiracies in the early 17th century. Most of the lines are in Japanese, with Japanese actors appearing in large numbers.
Squid Game Season 2 drew global attention as it was nominated for a Golden Globe Award before it was released on Netflix on April 26. Although it gained explosive popularity after the release of Season 2, it was reported that it did not receive broad support from the judges.
Previously, Squid Game Season 1 was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor in a TV category at the 79th Golden Globe Awards held in January 2022, and Oh Young-soo, who plays the role of “Grandfather Kkonbu” in the Best Supporting Actor category, was the first Korean actor to win the award.
In addition, he was the first non-English language to be nominated in 13 categories, including best picture, at the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning six awards including best director and best acting.
