A middle school in China set up a separate dining area for high-quality students and provided high-end lunch boxes, drawing controversy.
The business newspaper reported on the 16th (local time) that a netizen had separately divided the “academic excellence meal zone” in the cafeteria at Chengpei Middle School in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.
In the photos reported, about 14 high-end lunch boxes are neatly placed, and in front of them are signs of the “Early Student Meal Zone.”
Compared to the general meals that other students eat, there are many side dishes and they look much more neat.
When Internet users complained about discriminating against students, a school official said on the 17th, “We abolished the system.”
The school said, “It was provided as an award for students who performed well in the December test, not discriminating against daily meals.” He then apologized, saying, “It was for motivation, but the way was not thoughtful.”
It is said that the middle school has provided cultural gift certificates and a high-end lunch box to students who have achieved excellent grades in monthly exams.
Netizens criticized, “Motivation is good, but discrimination based on food is not good,” “What if growing children learn discrimination from school?” and “Sharing classes for any purpose is an act beyond the essence of education.”
