Japan converted a closed high school into a tourist commercialization

A Japanese tourism agency has released a “one-day school experience” product, drawing keen attention. This tourism product allows you to experience the life of a real high school in Japan for just one day.

Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 9th (local time) that the “one-day student” tourism product was inspired by a Japanese animation series. While the popularity of Japanese cartoons has captivated the world, they have planned a tour to experience the most iconic “high school” of Japanese culture.

The tour package was created under the name of “Your High School,” and it is said that foreign visitors can experience the real life of a Japanese high school student for just one day. It costs up to $200 per night.

Of course, tourism products are programs aimed at foreigners, so all schools use English. Actors playing student roles are also known to guide tourists in English.

The high school, which serves as the stage for the tourism package, is located in Chiba Prefecture in eastern Japan, and is said to have been built by renovating the actual high school. The high school was closed in November last year due to a lack of students, and agencies and local communities are said to have organized such a unique event to promote tourism and the local economy. At the opening ceremony, tourists who attend can choose between a Japanese uniform and a suit. After that, they can each be assigned to their own classrooms to experience traditional culture such as Japanese and calligraphy. There is even an experience of brandishing Japanese traditional clothes.

Before leaving school, all visitors must clean the classroom with their own hands. “By experiencing cleaning, the purpose is to show the Japanese education system that encourages teamwork and emphasizes individual responsibility,” the agency said.
