Vietnam to ban production, sale and use of e-cigarettes from next year

The Vietnamese government plans to ban the production, sale, and use of e-cigarettes starting next year.

According to local media such as VN Express on the 1st (local time), the day before, the Vietnamese National Assembly approved a resolution to widely ban e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products starting next year with the approval of 96 percent of lawmakers attending the vote.

The resolution prohibits the production, sale, import, storage, transportation, and use of e-cigarettes to protect public health.

Under the resolution, the Vietnamese government must prepare and implement specific measures necessary to prevent e-cigarettes.

Earlier on the 11th of last month, Vietnam’s Health Minister Dao Hongran suggested that e-cigarettes should be banned because they are harmful to health at the National Assembly, and that related laws should be revised to include such content.

According to Minister Lan, the 2020 survey found that the use rate of e-cigarettes among adults over the age of 14 in Vietnam increased rapidly from 0.2% in 2015 to 3.6% in 2020. In addition, the use rate of those aged 15 to 24 was the highest. EJ SONG
