On Nov. 27, 2024, the first snow fell in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. It wasn’t just light snow, but a large amount of snow covered roads and buildings white. The beauty of the first snow made people excited, but at the same time, it also brought unexpected inconveniences.
In particular, road conditions worsened, resulting in traffic accidents and traffic jams. As icy roads made driving difficult, many people chose public transportation instead of cars, which made buses and subways much more crowded than usual. Especially during commuting hours, crowds gathered, causing great inconvenience to citizens.
Around the same time, heavy snow fell in Inner Mongolia and northeastern China, an East Asian country like South Korea. Kindergartens and schools were ordered to close, and public transportation such as trains and buses was suspended. Highways and major roads were closed, and construction sites were suspended.
