Crash in India due to Google Maps error used by many people

In India, three people were killed when a vehicle that was following a road guided by Google Maps entered a broken bridge and crashed.

According to the Hindustan Times of India on the 27th (local time), a vehicle traveling to attend a wedding in the Balili area of Uttar Pradesh, northern India, entered a bridge under construction and crashed into the Ramganga River early on the 24th (local time).

According to local police, there were three people in the car, and the driver entered the bridge under construction according to Google Maps guidance. Not knowing that the bridge was cut off, he kept driving and fell about 15 meters down.

Police arrested construction officials, saying, “At the entrance of the bridge, there were no signs and barriers installed properly.” Another Google Maps official was also arrested.

Regarding the accident, Google expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, adding, “We are working closely with the authorities and cooperating to investigate the matter.”
