The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) analyzed data from the U.S. Medical School Council on the 18th (local time) and found that the number of dermatology resident applications has increased by 50% over the past five years. WSJ said, “Residents are competing for the position of dermatology major, which boasts the most enviable job environment in the medical profession.”
Work-life balance (work-life balance) is cited as one of the reasons for the high preference for dermatologists. “Dermatologists are guaranteed to work four days a week and have no overtime work,” the WSJ said. “Work-life balance is guaranteed as there are many cases where there are no night shift or holiday shift due to the nature of dermatologists who rarely have emergency situations.
High salaries have also had an impact. According to a recent survey of more than 150,000 doctors by a medical group in the U.S., dermatologists’ annual income is 541,000 dollars. Pediatricians’ annual income, on the other hand, was only half of 258,000.
Until a few years ago, dermatologists were teased as “climbers” in the U.S. However, as interest in beauty has grown, it has become a promising profession as it has become possible to earn high profits by promoting procedures and cosmetics through social media.
WSJ reported, “Some dermatologists post promotional posts of various brands of cosmetics on Instagram or TikTok, receiving up to $30,000 in advertising fees per post. Fine needle treatment or laser treatment takes only 20 minutes, but you can earn around $4,000 per case.”
