According to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) report on the 12th, more than 1,000 “Trump goods,” including clothing and dolls, are sold on Amazon in the United States, making local manufacturers such as Yiwu City, a manufacturing city in eastern China, earning big profits.
Yiwu City is home to the world’s largest wholesale market, and most of the “Trump goods” are reportedly produced in factories in the region. The best-selling product among them is a red hat with the slogan “Make America Great Again,” which is Trump’s campaign slogan. The price of the product is 19.99 dollars, and more than 10,000 units were sold until last month.
However, the SCMP diagnosed that Chinese companies will only be happy for a short time due to such strong sales. Trump has vowed to impose 60 percent tariffs on Chinese products imported into the U.S. since his candidate days.
Nick Maro of the think tank “Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)” said, “The first Trump administration mainly used a way to impose tariffs without special approval from Congress,” but explained, “With the U.S. relying on various Chinese intermediate goods and finished products, policy decisions will inevitably be considered that higher tariffs can trigger inflation.”
