The number of users of Threads launched by Meta to target X has surged

According to the U.S. economic media CNBC on the 3rd (local time), Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the number of monthly active users (MAU) of threads reached 275 million as of the third quarter. This is a 175% jump from a year ago. Compared to 175 million in the second quarter, the number increased by 100 million in three months.

“More than a million new users are currently signing up every day,” CEO Zuckerberg said. “We continue to work to make this app the next major social app.”

Thread is closing the gap with X with a surging number of users. According to Sensor Tower, a market information company, there are about 310 million monthly active users of X, which is owned by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Although it is 35 million more than Meta, it is 24% less than when Musk acquired X in October 2022.

The text-based thread was launched in July last year to target X. It gained sensational popularity with more than 100 million subscribers within five days of its launch. Since Musk’s acquisition of X, CEO Zuckerberg has dug into the gap between X users and advertisers due to controversy over massive layoffs and anti-Semitic remarks.
