OpenAI officially launches ‘Chat GPT Search’ that can search for information with interactive questions rather than keywords

ChatGPT developer OpenAI on Oct. 31 officially launched a search function within ChatGPT that has been tested under the name “Search GPT” since July. Competition between Google and Microsoft is expected to begin in earnest.

ChatGPT search, which was officially launched on the same day, is an interactive question search method. It eliminated the hassle of having to search multiple times by changing keywords to find the information you need. The search function is powered by a fine-tuned version of GPT-4o, OpenAI’s most powerful AI model.

ChatGPT search automatically searches the web according to user questions and provides interactive answers, and includes links from sources such as news articles and blog posts so that you can learn more about them. Users can ask deep questions about issues they want to obtain by asking additional questions, and ChatGPT will provide the best answers considering the entire context of the conversation, OpenAI explained.

As OpenAI releases ChatGPT search function, attention is focusing on whether it can break down Google’s stronghold in the search market following the AI sector. OpenAI first unveiled ChatGPT in November 2022, threatening Google, which was considered a leader in AI at the time. In the search market, Google’s current market share exceeds 90%.

ChatGPT search will be available starting this day for paid subscribers ChatGPT Plus and team users and those waiting to apply for SearchGPT. Enterprise and Edu users for ChatGPT enterprises will be able to access within weeks. It is also expected that free users will be able to use it within several months.
