Chinese media reported on Monday that Chinese start-ups will sell space travel tickets to depart from 2027. Chinese commercial aerospace company Shen Lan started selling two space travel tickets through live streaming of Taobao Mall on the day. Each ticket costs 1.5 million yuan.
Buyers must first pay 50,000 yuan as a deposit and pay the remaining amount directly after visiting the Sunran Beijing R&D Center.
The buyer of the ticket will experience weightlessness for more than five minutes beyond the 100-kilometer “Karman Line,” which is called the boundary between Earth and space. The total time required for suborbital travel across the Karman Line is about 12 minutes.
Sun-ran’s recycled rockets and manned spaceship capsules are used for space travel. The manned spaceship capsule is about 4 meters high and 3.5 meters in diameter, has six panoramic windows and can carry up to six passengers at a time.
Shen Lan is considered a leader in China’s rapidly growing commercial aerospace industry. China’s CAS Space previously announced in May that it would launch a space travel product in 2028.
