President Park Geun-hye’s job approval rating has rebounded to the 40 percent range for the first time in nine weeks, a poll showed Monday.
A poll conducted by polling agency Realmeter put Park’s approval rating at 42.8 percent, the highest since the second week of January, when it stood at 39.4 percent.
Those who disapproved of Park’s job performance came to 50.2 percent, down 4.4 percentage points from first week of March.
Park’s bounce came as conservatives rallied around the president following the bloody attack of the top U.S. envoy in Seoul by an anti-U.S. activist, according to the polling agency.
Park made a surprise visit to Ambassador Mark Lippert in a Seoul hospital upon her return from a four-nation tour of the Middle East.
A 55-year-old South Korean activist slashed Lippert with a 25-centimeter knife during a breakfast function in Seoul earlier this month, opening deep gashes on his face and left arm which required 80 stitches.
The survey was conducted on 2,500 adults between March 9 and 13 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points. (Yonhap)
