Astronergy Solar Korea eyes global solar power market

Solar power equipment-maker Astronergy Solar Korea is aiming to make a foray into the photovoltaic power generation market in Southeast Asia.

Established in 2009 as a subsidiary of Chinese energy firm Chint Group, the Seoul-based company produces a wide range of solar energy products including modules and inverters, and participating in projects to build a solar energy plant in Korea and foreign markets.

“Astronergy Solar Korea, which has been focusing on manufacturing solar cells and modules, will expand its businesses into the establishment and operation of solar energy farms,” said Chang Jyh Ping, the chief executive of the firm.

The solar cell-maker is building solar plants in Hawaii, Fiji, Japan and Thailand, and is trying to increase its presence in emerging markets including Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh and the Philippines.

The company has also funded local events and projects including the Gangwon K-pop Concert, and the establishment of an energy park in Chuncheon and a solar farm at a school in Hongcheon, both in Gangwon Province.
