MS to Introduce Controversial AI ‘Recall’ Soon…Trial Launch in October

MS

Microsoft (MS) has decided to reintroduce its new artificial intelligence (AI) function “Window Recall” service, which caused controversy over information security concerns.

According to CNBC on the 21st local time, Microsoft announced in October that it will test-provide a recall function to users of the Windows inside program using Copilot+ PCs.

The Windows recall function is a service that Microsoft ambitiously unveiled at the annual developer event “Build 2024” in May, and is a representative feature of the company’s next-generation food, Copilot+ AI PC products.

It is a function that allows AI to find what users need by remembering past documents, images, and websites that users have seen on their PCs, and when they can’t remember where they saw it, they use the function to find pages or images they have searched in the past.

Contrary to expectations, however, due to information security concerns, the company decided to release the default setting as “deactivated” so that only users who want the function can use it, and introduced a biometric authentication function called “Window Hello.” However, as the frequency and convenience of use are much lower than expected due to cumbersome procedures, Microsoft’s existing plan to change the game of the PC industry with AI functions has also been disrupted.
