German media, including Jutdeutsche Zeitung (SZ), reported on the 12th (local time) that a Russian IT company created the same fake homepage as a leading German media company and distributed false information.
Citing the Bavarian Constitutional Defense Agency and Western intelligence agencies, local media reported that two Russian IT companies on the U.S. and European Union (EU) sanctions list are believed to be behind such fake news websites.
Since September 2022, German intelligence agencies have been tracking so-called “doppelganger” websites that are decorated the same as websites of leading domestic media such as SZ and Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung (FAZ), Spiegel, and D-Belt.
Fake news criticized the German government’s policies and support for Ukraine, including “Washington’s favor is more important than our children’s future” and “The government is turning a blind eye to medical expenses for the elderly.” He also dealt with the U.S. presidential election, the French general election, and the Israeli war.
