Popera tenor Lim Hyung-joo (38) will present the National Medal of Merit Camellia Medal, his agency DGNCOM said on the 22nd. Lim Hyung-joo will be the youngest person to receive the National Medal of Merit Camellia Medal at the opening ceremony of the 20th Korea Youth Fair to be held at the National Culture and Arts Center in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province on the 23rd. The National Medal of Merit is an award given to a person who has contributed to the improvement of national welfare and national development through the government’s contributions in the fields of politics, economy, society, education and academia. Lim has been recognized for his consistent efforts to foster and protect youth for more than 25 years. Lim donated the entire 3 million won down payment he received in 1998 when he signed an exclusive contract with the Samsung Film Business Group under the Samsung Group, and in the same year, he produced the title song “I Believe” as a campaign music video for underprivileged children around the world in partnership with the UNICEF Korea Committee. Since then, he has participated in various sharing activities by serving as a promotional ambassador for leading NGOs and international charities such as the Korean Red Cross, the Community Chest of Korea, and the UNESCO Korea Committee, and has participated in various sharing activities for more than 20 years. He also served as the general artistic director of the Namyangju Dream Kids Orchestra, which was established to ease the cultural alienation of low-income and single-parent households, and has donated his solo concert tickets to underprivileged children and teenagers. Lim Hyung-joo said, “I’m very thrilled to receive the Dongbaekjang at an early age after receiving a presidential citation at the age of 20 in 2015, but I’m very sad that there are many people who do better in invisible places than me.” He also expressed his ambition, saying, “I think it’s an award on behalf of others, and I’ll focus more on sharing activities in the future.”
