China’s Gansu earthquake death toll rises to 131…980 injured

The number of victims killed in the earthquake in northwestern China’s Gansu Province has risen to 131.

According to the announcement of the People’s Government of Gansu Province and China’s Central Television (CCTV) on the 20th, 131 people have been killed and 980 injured in the earthquake as of 9 a.m. that day.

The number of missing persons was counted as 16.

As of 5 p.m. the previous day, the number of deaths and injuries increased by 4 and 246.

Chinese media reported that rescue efforts were struggling as sub-zero colds continued in the middle of the day and aftershocks continued.

Earlier, at 11:59 p.m. on the 18th (at 00:59 p.m. on the 19th in Korean time), a 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in Jisusan County, Linshahui Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province.

The earthquake is expected to be the most damaged since the 2014 Yunnan earthquake, which killed 617 people and injured 3,143.
