China recently said that “China is an important participant in the global chemical fertilizer trade” in response to tightening export controls on urea water and ammonium phosphate.

Asked about concerns in the international community over China’s recent tightening of export controls on urea and other countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said, “China is a big player in chemical fertilizer production and consumption.”

According to the Ministry of State, China’s chemical fertilizer exports rose 28.8% year-on-year to 25.72 million tons (t) in the first 10 months of this year, spokesman Wang Wenbin said.

Spokesman Wang the day before mentioned that “Korea’s relevant departments are constantly communicating about this” regarding the suspension of urea customs clearance by the Chinese Customs Service.

In addition, China said ahead of the China-EU summit on the 7th, “China is a reliable and indispensable partner of the EU.”

“China is not pursuing a trade surplus and continues to push for a high level of openness to the outside world by actively holding international import fairs and supply chain promotion fairs,” Wang said in response to the EU’s comments that it could not accept a prolonged trade imbalance with China.

“China is in the black on the outside, but in reality, the European side enjoys a large portion of the profit,” he said. “If the EU wants to impose strict restrictions on exports of high-tech products to China and significantly increase exports to China, on the other hand, this is against common sense.”

“Whether it is a solution to the prominent problems facing Europe or effectively coping with global challenges, China is a reliable and indispensable partner of the EU,” he said, adding, “It is an important experience in the development of China-EU relations to properly resolve differences through dialogue.”
