A 55-year-old Chinese man of Korean ethnicity was detained Sunday to undergo further questioning on charges of murdering a woman whose mutilated torso was found last week.
Park Chun-bong was taken into custody after a district court in this city just south of Seoul issued a warrant for his detention.
Park is accused of killing the woman believed to be his ex-girlfriend, also of Korean-Chinese origin, and butchering her body before abandoning it, police said.
The torso of the woman without its head, arms or internal organs, except for both kidneys, was found in a black plastic bag on a hiking trail in Suwon, 46 kilometers south of Seoul, last week, sending a shockwave across the country.
Police said the suspect had admitted to killing the woman but refused to comment on why he had chopped up and abandoned the body.
Following the confession, police released Park’s photo to the media based on a law permitting this when there is sufficient evidence that the suspect of a certain brutal and grave crime committed it.
Police said that they plan to continue questioning Park over the motive behind the alleged murder or whether he had an accomplice. (Yonhap)
