Taiwan is tightening airport and port boundaries as five types of respiratory infections spread in China, including mycoplasma pneumonia and cell fusion virus (RSV).
According to Taiwanese media including the Free Press on the 26th, Taiwan’s Ministry of Hygiene and Reservance for Disease Control (CDC) took the same action the day before, citing the spread of respiratory infectious diseases in China.
Luo Yijun, head of the Department of Disease Control, cited data from the World Health Organization (WHO), said five types of pathogens in China, including mycoplasma pneumonia, cell fusion virus (RSV), influenza, adenovirus and coronavirus, are simultaneously circulating, increasing respiratory infections for the fifth consecutive week.
Taiwan authorities stressed that the recent pathogen epidemic is being analyzed to be related to the lack of immunity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. He also urged citizens planning to visit China to thoroughly take personal hygiene, including the COVID-19 XBB vaccine and influenza vaccine, hand washing and wearing masks. It also asked quarantine agents at the airport to make a voluntary report if they have fever or acute respiratory symptoms when they enter Taiwan from China, Hong Kong and Macau.
