Google has spent about $26.3 billion in 2021 alone to make sure its search engine is built on PCs and mobiles by default.
According to CNBC and others, the U.S. Department of Justice recently revealed that Google spent $26.3 billion in TAC, the cost of acquiring traffic, in 2021 through data released in Google’s antitrust lawsuit trial.
TAC accounts for most of the costs paid by Google to mobile phone manufacturers and others to be set as the default search engine.
The U.S. Department of Justice claims that Google pays billions of dollars a year to popular device makers such as Apple and Samsung and U.S. mobile carriers such as AT&T and Verizon, to secure basic search engine status and prevent them from doing business with Google competitors.
