Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp. has suspended operations at some factories since the evening of the 16th due to the accident of its parts maker, a customer, Kyodo News and local public broadcaster NHK reported.
According to reports on the 18th, Toyota suspended the operation of 10 production lines at six factories in Aichi and Mie prefectures on the 16th because it could not properly procure springs due to the explosion of parts makers on the 15th.
The suspension of operations at the Takaoka plant in Aichi Prefecture disrupted the production of some vehicles, including Corolla and Prius.
NHK reported that 11 production lines at seven factories are expected to stop production as even one plant in Gifu Prefecture will not operate on the 18th. Whether or not the plant will resume operation after the 19th will be decided on the 18th.
“Toyota has been producing vehicles efficiently without securing more inventory than necessary,” Kyodo News said. “In this unpredictable situation, production is stagnant.”
Prior to this, Toyota suspended the operation of all 14 plants in Japan for about two days due to system problems related to ordering parts in late August.
In March last year, a parts production client was attacked by a cyber attack, temporarily stopping the operation of all factories in Japan.
