U.N. “Uses ballistic missile technology, violates Security Council resolutions”
On the 30th (local time), the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command released a video of a Chinese J-16 fighter jet making a threat flight over the South Pacific Ocean on the 26th.A Chinese fighter jet flew close to a U.S. reconnaissance plane over the South China Sea and made a threatening maneuver, the U.S. military said on the 30th (local time). According to a video released by the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, the Chinese J-16 fighter jet flew in front of the RC-135 reconnaissance plane, which is conducting routine operations over the South Pacific Ocean on the 26th, blocking the U.S. military reconnaissance plane. The command called the flight of Chinese fighter jets “unnecessarily aggressive maneuvers.”
Earlier in December last year, the Chinese fighter jet J-11 made a threatening flight by approaching a U.S. reconnaissance plane flying over the South China Sea up to 20 feet (about 6 meters). In June last year, a Chinese fighter jet Su-30 dangerously blocked the U.S. military transport plane C-130 over the South China Sea. Meanwhile, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said that North Korea launched a space launch vehicle claimed by the North in the south direction from Dongchang-ri, North Pyongan Province, at 6:29 a.m. on the 31st. According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, one projectile passed over the distant sea west of Baengnyeongdo Island.Military sources said the projectile disappeared from the radar without reaching the drop warning point. The military is reportedly analyzing the possibility that the entire launch process may have failed, such as the projectile exploding in the air or falling into the sea.Earlier, the United Nations warned that North Korea’s plan to launch a reconnaissance satellite could be a violation of the Security Council’s sanctions resolution. “Any launch using ballistic missile technology is contrary to relevant Security Council resolutions,” U.N. spokesman Stephen Dujarric said in a statement on Thursday. At a regular press briefing on the day, spokesman Dujarric replied, “I’m sure it will be,” when asked if he sees North Korea’s satellite launch as a violation of the Security Council resolution.
