As Ambassador of Mexico in the Republic of Korea, I appreciate very much the attention your media is paying to the recent events in my country. In this regard, I would like to inform that, in response to the deplorable acts of violence in the city of lguala, Guerrero, on Sept. 26, the government of Mexico categorically condemns these outrageous, painful, unacceptable acts that the people of Mexico do not deserve.
President Enrique Pena Nieto has instructed the security cabinet to clarify the facts, find those who are responsible and firmly apply the law. The Mexican government cannot and will not admit the slightest loophole for impunity.
Through the public safety departments, the Mexican government will commit all its resources in the process to clarify the facts, determine the truth, and find those responsible as well as to strictly apply the rule of law.
Among the concrete actions to face this situation, the federal government has sent army personnel, the federal police and the gendarmerie to the municipality of lguala to contribute to keep the safety of the region. The gendarmerie took over the tasks of public security in the municipality and will carry out surveillance at all entrances to lguala and the vicinity to ensure prevention of further violence and pursue public protection.
Furthermore, the Attorney General’s Office formed a task force to investigate this case. Lucio Zeron Thomas, director of the Criminal Investigation Agency, was transferred to Guerrero to lead investigations. The attorney general, Jesus Murillo Karam, met with the families of the missing and offered them the full support of the Mexican government to clarify these facts.
In addition to the first 22 detainees, four people have been arrested for investigation and 117 police officers of lguala are undergoing tests of confidence. All municipal police weapons have been seized to subject them to ballistics.
The federal authority strengthened its team of forensic experts, criminologists and specialists in various branches of research ― Argentinian forensic experts are contributing in these efforts, who will integrate the investigation.
Elements of the Departments of National Defense and the Navy as well as the federal police and the Center for Research and National Security are performing intelligence work in the area.
Through the public safety departments, the Mexican government will keep Mexican society and the international community aware of the advances in this issue.
