First ice of season hits Gangwon

The first subzero temperature of the fall was recorded in the towns of Pyeongchang and Yongpyeong in Gangwon Province, the Korea Meteorological Administration said Tuesday.

The temperature dropped to minus 0.4 degrees Celsius in the mountainous Gangwon Province on Tuesday morning, where the season’s first ice was seen in Yongpyeong and on Mount Seoraksan.

The KMA said the first frost had come nine days earlier than last year.

Areas including Daegwallyeong, Cheorwon, Yeongwol and Hoengseong on the east coast saw temperatures ranging from 0.6 degrees Celsius to 5.8 degrees Celsius in the morning.

The latest temperature changes suggest the winter season is just around the corner.

In the meantime, the temperature gap during the day will remain high at approximately 10 degrees Celsius, while the daytime temperature will continue to stay around 20 degrees Celsius across the country, the KMA added.

Weather forecasters warned of a sudden drop in nighttime temperature and chilly weather conditions to likely continue in the coming weeks.
