Las Vegas(Nevada)- -The keywords for CES 2023, the world’s largest consumer electronics and IT (information technology) fair, which closed on January 9, were new con- cepts such as “mobility,” “metaverse” (three-dimensional virtual world), and “human security.”
This year, there were about 300 automobile- related booths at CES. Technology competition for hardware software
combined with automo- biles and other means of transportation was fierce enough to account for 10% of the total exhibition hall.
Metaverse, which was cited as a central theme along with Web3, a gener- ic term for next-generation Internet technology based on decentralization, was called ‘Next Generation of the Internet’ and attracted attention as a technology that will change our lives. Metaverse products and solutions could be largely divided into two types: virtualization and immer- sion.
Virtualization has been prominent in services that can be used briefly for specific activities of individuals in certain areas, such as showrooms and conference rooms. Immersion provides immersion experiences by utilizing AR/VR based on digital twins such as users’ avatars.
The concept of “human security for all” was the first keyword that came to mind at CES 2023. It em- phasized that the devel- opment and convergence of various technologies is ultimately for human well-being and prosperity.
It set humans as targets to be protected from military threats as well as various threats in the economic and cultural fields, and established ‘Human Se- curity For All’ and ‘Food/ Ag Tech’ separately in the exhibition category to em- phasize technological in- novation for human safety and development.
Human security was a topic that encompassed various related issues such as personal safety, cybersecurity, food security (food tech), and environmental protection, and many related products and services were selected as
CES Innovation Awards. CES 2023 was counted as 115,000 people attend- ed,exceeding100,000expected by the Organizer, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). This is a 2.5 times increase from last year’s 45,000 people. 75,000 people visited in the U.S. alone, and more than 40,000 people from overseas participated. The number of participating companies reached 3,200 in 174 countries. This is also an increase of more than 1,000 from a year ago.About 550 Korean companies participated, the second-largest after the United States.
The number of Korean products that won the CES Innovation Award this year was 216, accounting for 35 percent of the to- tal (612). It recorded the largest number of awards ever, 55 percent more than last year, when it won 139 awards. As a result, Korea won the most innovation awards, beating the U.S. (177), Taiwan (38), and France (37). The best in- novation award was also the highest ever. Of the 23 award-winning products, 12 were made in Korea.
