DDP exhibition

More than a month before the “Seoul Light” event, which attracts more than 1 million visitors every winter since its debut in 2019, the 2022 Seoul Light exhibition will be unveiled first at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (hereinafter referred to as DDP).

The exhibition is being held from November 1st (Tue) to January 29th (Sun), 2023, and this year’s Seoul Light theme, “Designing life at the Universe,” has been released as experimental artworks by next-generation media artists.

is an exhibition which aims to discover and foster next-generation media artists as part of huge media art project ‘Seoul Light’. DDP aims to be reborn as a place to introduce creative works of emerging media artists through the exhibition of .

The works of five next-generation media artists discovered and selected by DDP can be found at the Media Art Gallery and Transparent Media Wall, DDP’s permanent media art exhibition hall. The art works consist of media projections and 3D digital art which shows 5 artists’ own creative interpretation of the universe.

The two artworks are introduced at the Media Art Gallery, which show immersive media art with projection mapping and sound that fills the space. ‘Ko Hwi’ explores various relationships of sound and expresses the universe as audio visual art using light and sound. ‘Hyun Ji-won’ compares the Earth and the universe as a garden and captures humans who covet resources.

Three artworks are introduced at the ‘Transparent Media Wall’, a large video panel with eight transparent T-OLED panels connected as one. ‘Oh Soo-hwan’ expresses the story of a spacecraft returning to Earth without a life signal after a long space exploration using space-time reproduction technology in 3D motion graphics. ‘ZEEN’ shows the image of a human being walking with infinite waves toward the universe by converting it into various angles. ‘BYEONKI’ presents a work that views the universe as an inner world and freely swims through the inner world of a virtual figure embodied in 3D graphics.

exhibition does not look at the universe as a fantastic space or an unknown frontier, but designs various lifestyles, various patterns, and spatial composition that can be drawn in the universe, and imagines it from an architectural

perspective with media projection and 3D digital art.

This year, Seoul Light launched a signal, starting with the “Seoul Light Autumn” event. “Seoul Light Autumn,” which lasted for 10 days from September 30 to October 9, showed the first step toward a “space life.”

The pleasant and exciting walking of “Cosmo Walker,” a virtual figure who is walking on a path to a better future in the infinite space of “space,” was presented as the first step toward space. During the event, about 370,000 visitors visited the DDP.

After the exhibition of “Space Backpacking,” “Rang-Debu,” a full-fledged journey of space life, will be held as a large facade show on the 222m outer wall of the DDP from December 17.

Lee Kyung-don, CEO of the Seoul Design Foundation, said, “Starting with the <Space Backpacking> exhibition, we will be able to meet the works of next-generation media artists who will lead the future every year at the DDP, which is likened to a spaceship landed in the city center.”
